A Comfort bag for Children escaping Domestic Violence
Non-profit organization
Description
This project continues the legacy of Yishai Greenbaum z”l, a devoted clinical social worker who managed a domestic violence prevention center and always looked after the most vulnerable. Yishai noticed that the children of women affected by violence often spent long, stressful hours in police stations or welfare centers while waiting for shelter placement — without toys, without distractions, and with trauma building up by the minute.
To bring them moments of relief and comfort, Yishai dreamt of a simple but meaningful gesture: a backpack filled with games, art supplies, and small toys. After his tragic death while serving as a reservist during the Iron Swords War, his colleagues and the SMILE association partnered to bring his dream to life.
Thanks to collaborations with schools across Israel, students lovingly prepare these backpacks, which are then distributed to police stations and social service centers. Each backpack is a small package of comfort, solidarity, and care — a smile during a dark moment.
By supporting this project, you honor Yishai’s memory and bring light to children who need it most.
